New South Wales Casino and Card Room Gaming 3s3r44

The first casino to open in New South Wales was The Star, owned by Echo Entertainment, the casino branch of Tabcorp Holdings. It began operating in 1995 and opened its permanent facility in 1997. Casinos are regulated by the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Authority (CLGCA), after having assumed that responsibility from the Casino Control Authority, Licensing Court of NSW and the Liquor istration Board in July 2008. The CLGCA is constituted by the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Control Authority Act 2007.

Gaming machines are offered in clubs and hotels throughout New South Wales. The machines are supervised by the state via the Centralized Monitoring System, an online system deployed in 2001 to enforce taxation.

In October 2007, Tabcorp Holdings Ltd. agreed to higher taxes and a fee of AUD 100 million for a guarantee that no new casinos will be developed in New South Wales for the next 12 years. The tax rate increased from 24.1% to 27.5%. As part of the agreement, the Casino Liquor and Gaming Control Authority allowed Star City to expand and to lift the betting limits on some multi-terminal gaming machines and increase the jackpots.

In October 2008, the NSW government began working on legislation that would reduce the amount of slot machines allowed in the state by 5,000, create a new local tax, tighten controls over the gaming industry and protect problem gamblers by limiting their access to cash. The legislation was approved and went into effect in February 2009.

In August 2011, the Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Hospitality, and Racing announced that reduced gaming machine taxes will go into effect starting in September as an effort to prevent more clubs from shutting down or consolidating.
